Put a video in a classified listing: the method

Classified sites do not accept video files: the listing form only takes images. There is still a simple way to show your item moving inside your listing, and it takes two minutes.

The idea: your video becomes an image that moves

Film your item for a few seconds, then turn that video into an animated image (an animated WebP, the modern successor of the GIF). That image is added to your listing like an ordinary photo — and it plays on loop in the listings feed, like a mini video. On platforms that keep animations (France's Leboncoin, where we tested it), your listing is the only one moving among still photos.

Step by step

1. Open the tool and pick the "With a video" tab;
2. Film straight from the page (10 seconds max, a timer bar guides you) or pick a video from your gallery;
3. The tool extracts the frames, crops to the square feed format and compresses everything under the sites' weight limit;
4. Download the file and add it to your listing like any photo.

Everything happens in your browser: the video is never uploaded.

Filming an item well, in a few seconds

• Daylight, near a window: video forgives low light even less than photos;
• Slow movements: move around the item or rotate it gently;
• Show what reassures: the item working, the screen turning on, the zipper sliding, the label;
• Keep it short: 4 to 6 seconds are enough — the shorter the video, the smoother the final animation.

The limits, honestly

An animated image is still an image: no sound, and up to 10 seconds are used. Several big platforms freeze animations on upload (eBay strips them, Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree accept only JPEG/PNG): there, your listing shows the first frame of your video like a classic photo — so make that first moment count. When in doubt, run a test on your platform.

Video or photos: which one?

Both work, depending on the item. Video shines for mechanisms, devices powering on, clothes being worn. The photo slideshow gives calmer, better-framed views. The tool does both — try it, free and without sign-up.
